Much of 20th century music is based on process. The technical part of arranging the music takes precedence in producing the overall result. The composers at newEar conveyed a perspective that their own music and new music, in general, is making a shift toward reversing that trend.

Alacartoona is Ruby Falls, vocal and guitar, Providence Forge, bass and vocal, Overton Wooldridge, accordion and vocal, and Bachelor Calwood, drums and percussion. The music was paired down; only the instrumentation that was needed was present. The troupe also delivered monologues and dialogs: emotive vignettes that were acted out.

Gamelan Genta Kasturi is an eighteen-member community ensemble that operates in partnership with the UMKC Conservatory's Community Music & Dance Academy.
