LIVE THEATRE IN HD comes to the Tivoli

This spring, the Tivoli Cinemas in Westport will begin high-definition screenings of live performances digitally captured from Broadway and London stages. Through an exclusive area arrangement, the Tivoli will be showcasing two new productions: In May, the series will feature FRANKENSTEIN, directed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle, and performed by London’s prestigious National Theatre. In June, it will premiere the new production of Brian Bedford in Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, by the Roundabout Theatre Company.

This spring, the Tivoli Cinemas in Westport will begin high-definition screenings of live performances digitally captured from Broadway and London stages. Through an exclusive area arrangement, the Tivoli will be showcasing two new productions: In May, the series will feature FRANKENSTEIN, directed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle, and performed by London’s prestigious National Theatre. In June, it will premiere the new production of Brian Bedford in Oscar Wilde’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, by the Roundabout Theatre Company.

The Tivoli has made special enhancements to its projection and sound systems, and has installed broadcast-quality internet services. “Audiences in Kansas City will have the opportunity to experience great theatre captured in brilliant HD,” said Tivoli owner Jerry Harrington. “We’re very excited to bring people these remarkable productions at a fraction of the cost of flying to New York or London.”

In addition to featuring other productions by National Theatre Live and the Roundabout Theatre, the Tivoli is also planning interactive screenings with filmmakers appearing via video conference later this year.

Tickets for FRANKENSTEIN and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST go on sale Monday, April 4.  Early ticket purchase is strongly recommended.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.TivoliKC.com  - or -  by phone (Monday-Friday from Noon to 5:00pm only) by calling (816) 561-5222.

All Seats:  $15.00  ($13.00 for Seniors/Students).  UMKC students with ID may purchase rush ticket day of show only at the Tivoli for $10.00.

Oscar-winning filmmaker DANNY BOYLE (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) returns to his theater roots, directing a new adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel FRANKENSTEIN. Boyle makes his National Theatre debut with this eagerly-anticipated event that has been called a "large-scale and theatrically and visually ambitious stage production."   Actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller will alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature.

VERSION ONE will feature Jonny Lee Miller as Victor and Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature. VERSION TWO will feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Victor and Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature.
