Fall season set for Ruel Joyce Recital Series
The Ruel Joyce Recital Series at Johnson County Community College kicks off its fall season in September with another line-up of Kansas City’s finest classical musicians.
The Ruel Joyce Recital Series at Johnson County Community College kicks off its fall season in September with another line-up of Kansas City’s finest classical musicians. The recitals, which are free and open to the public, take place at noon on Mondays in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, except where noted.
The September 12 opening performance features music by and about women. Appearing will be Riva Capellari, soprano, and Claudette Schiratti piano.
Capellari received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance from the University of Michigan. Over the past two years, she has developed and performed in two Women’s Voices programs through the Westport Center for the Arts. Schiratti holds a master’s in piano performance from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and a master’s of sacred music from the University of Kansas. As a Sister of Mercy, she has served in schools and parishes in Omaha, Denver and the Kansas City area.

- · Oct. 31: George Watkins, violin
- · Nov. 7, Richard and Megan Bell with Friends, Yardley Hall
The series is named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians’ federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. Seating is available first-come, first-served.
