Auditions for Topeka Symphony Youth Ensemble (all), Canta Filia (young female voices), Kansas City Civic Orchestra (principal oboe and section cello), and Fountain City Brass Band (solo cornet)
Topeka Symphony Youth Ensembles Auditions
Auditions for the 2010-2011 Topeka Symphony Youth Ensembles will be Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Washburn University. The three youth ensembles are Debut Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic, and Youth Orchestra. Rehearsals begin September 7. All rehearsals are on Tuesdays with concerts on November 21, 2010 and March 6, 2011. Any musician 21 years of age and younger may audition. To be a member, a student must also play in his or her school orchestra or band, if such an organization exists. Conductors for the three groups are Carolyn Sandquist, Debut Orchestra, Carolyn Rich Voth, Youth Philharmonic, and Steven Elisha, Youth Orchestra.
There is a non-refundable $10 audition fee. Once accepted into one of the ensembles, there is a non-refundable tuition fee of $75 per student per year, which includes music charges and rental. Tuition assistance is available for those families with a need. Fountain City Brass Band to hold audition for vacant cornet seat
The Fountain City Brass Band, reigning Scottish Open, U.S. Open, and North American Brass Band Champions will hold an audition for a solo cornet seat on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Bell Cultural Arts Center on the campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.
The FCBB is an all-volunteer ensemble that maintains an active schedule of concert and competitions.

Vocal ensemble for young womens, Canta Filia, roster auditions
CANTA FILIA AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2010, STARTING AT 6:30 P.M.

Canta Filia is dedicated to excellence in the performance of choral music and to developing a community of friends who share a love of singing. The ensemble collaborates with the Kansas City Children’s Chorus, UMKC Conservatory ensembles, community groups, and visiting choirs, as well as maintaining a schedule of independent performances. Recently Canta Filia traveled to New York City to perform at Lincoln Center as part of the DCINY choral festival featuring composer Eric Whitacre, and in the fall of 2009 the ensemble served as the chorus in the UMKC Opera Theatre production of Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel. Canta Filia performs a wide variety of choral repertoire from around the world.

Admission to Canta Filia is by audition only. Young women ages 14-20 are invited to audition.
The Kansas City Civic Orchestra announces auditions for Principal Oboe
Monday, August 30 beginning at 5pm

All auditions will be blind and the winner will be announced the same evening.
Candidate will be asked to play a movement from a concerto and play the following excerpts:
- Brahms, Variations on a Theme by Haydn: Chorale and Var. III
- Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade: Mvt. 3: pick up to Letter A – 8 after A
- Ravel, Le Tombeau de Couperin: PRELUDE: Opening – Reh. 2 & Reh. 8 – Reh. 9

Candidates will be asked to play a movement from a concerto and sight reading excerpt.
Those auditioning may be asked to be placed on the KCCO’s Sub-Musician list.
Musicians of the Kansas City Civic Orchestra are volunteer.
Rehearsals are one night a week (Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30pm) and begin Tuesday, August 31, 2010.
