JCCC hosts spring Jazz Series

Johnson County Community College will present first-class local musicians in its spring free Jazz Series at noon each Tuesday, February 23 through March 30, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center at JCCC.

Johnson County Community College will present first-class local musicians in its spring free Jazz Series at noon each Tuesday, February 23 through March 30, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center at JCCC. unless venue otherwise noted.

All concerts are free and open to the public.

"I think Kansas City has an amazing number of fine musicians who also perform all over the world," said Doreen Maronde, who programs the series. "I like the fact this series gives some of our city's jazz musicians have a chance to play away from noisy crowded clubs so that people can really hear them."

Candace EvansThe Candace Evans Trio will open the free spring Jazz Series at noon Tuesday, Feb. 23.  Evans is a jewel on the Midwest music scene. One of the region's most popular and versatile musicians, she can be found performing everything from jazz standards to classical works at popular Kansas City hotels and clubs. Evans released her long-awaited second CD, So Nice, to excellent reviews. The album showcases her strengths as a vocalist and keyboardist on a wide variety of tunes including swing, blues, Latin jazz and soulful ballads. A graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School, she completed her bachelor's degree at Avila College and studied jazz with educator and performer Carol Comer.  Performing with Evans are Ricky Anderson, bass, and Mike Thompson, drums.

March 16 - Carol Comer with PBT (Yardley Hall)

March 23 - Al Pearson Quartet

March 30 - Bowdog featuring Jerry Hahn

 

The series is cosponsored by the JCCC music departments, Community Services and the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts. Seating is available first-come, first-served.
