The Simon Carrington Chamber Singers' program was a diverse blend of old and new as the billing "Juxtapositions" would imply, but it was in three modern pieces where the choir most excelled Friday night at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral.

For six years over 7000 people have driven back-country roads and carried their lawn chairs out into the middle of a pasture all to sit and listen to the Kansas City Symphony perform various works of Americana in the Flint Hills. With a beautiful sunset as the backdrop, KSC highlighted the theme "Kansas and the Civil War."

As the Symphony ends its season it is also the last of three resident companies to perform at the Lyric Theatre. As such the program is wistful and hopeful at the prospects of the new home at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Joined by famed violin soloist Stefan Jackiw, the Symphony shutters the building with the works of Mendelssohn, Bruch, and Tchaikovsky.
