Fiona's List for June 24 - July 5

Tue, Jun 23, 2009

Fiona's favorites for the next 12 days include UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, Kacico Song and Dance Project, the Civic Opera Theater's "Don Pasquale." the International Piano Competition in Lawrence Semi-Finals and Brian Steele narrating Copland's Lincoln Portrait at Village Presbyterian Church.

Fiona's List for June 24 - July 5

Fiona's favorites for the next 12 days include the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance concert on the 25th, the Kacico Song and Dance Project on the 27th, the Civic Opera Theater production of Don Pasquale on the 26th and 28th, the International Piano Competition in Lawrence Semi-Finals on the 28th and Finals on the 29th, and a patriotic concert at Village Presbyterian Church on July 1st with Brian Steele narrating Copland's Lincoln Portrait.

For those of you who like fireworks AND classical music, check out the Powell Gardens program on July 3rd and the Heritage Philharmonic program on July 4th!

One more reminder that there is a short organ recital at the Community of Christ in Independence every day of June, July, and August except the 4th of July.  The Auditorium has a grand Aeolian-Skinner Organ with 6,334 pipes; the Temple has a fabulous Casavant Organ with 5,685 pipes.  It's worth two special trips to see both buildings and hear both organs.  Check fiona's list each week for specifics, but generally the weekday recitals are in the Temple and the weekend recitals alternate between the two organs.

For something different, try one of the other "fiona favorites" found just above this week's fiona's list. There's something for you for every night of the week.  This week there are two places to hear the DOUG TALLEY QUARTET and one time to hear the DOUG TALLEY QUINTET!

>> Looking ahead to the next fiona's list>> If this is something YOU don't want to miss, please add this to your personal calendar now >> SUMMERFEST 2009 for four consecutive weekends starting July 11 and 12 with Wildflowers for oboe, bassoon, and piano by Jenni Brandon;  Tempête de sable for clarinet, violin, and viola, by Alexandra du Bois; the Gloria for soprano, strings, and harpsichord by Georg Frideric Handel; and All'ombra di sospetto for soprano, flute, cello, and harpsichord by Antonio Vivaldi.

To see a list of performing events extending into August, click on KC Events on the top navigation bar of the website.

Fiona HIGHLY recommends another list of events for families, friends, educators, & neighbors of children 10 and under.  Miss Jackie's June list includes puppet shows, Deanna Rose Farmstead, Powell Gardens, facts and fiction about bats, Funky Mama concert, Jim Cosgrove concert, and more. To receive her monthly list, send an email to: missjackielists@gmail.com

Until next Wednesday morning,
Fiona
