UMKC Conservatory showcased four emerging musicians in its annual Concerto/Aria Winners Concert: baritone Chris Carr, pianist Victoria Fatu, cellist Yifan Wu, and composer Ryan Jesperson on White Recital Hall's stage.

One of only three professional orchestras in South Africa and the first to tour the United States, the Cape Town Philharmonic appeared in their Kansas City debut last Friday night for a 500-plus audience at the Folly Theater for the Harriman-Jewell Series. Cape Town, with its conductor Martin Pantaleev and solo violinist Philippe Quint, put on a concert of accessible twentieth century works and a romantic Russian standard.

The Performing Arts Series of Johnson County Community College welcomed the Haydnchor, one of the four choirs that make up the Vienna Boys' Choir to Yardley Hall on Saturday night. With works ranging from Orff to Michael Jackson the audience was treated to the talents of this young musicians.

ALERT! New budget threats to MAC funding

The MO House Budget Committee will be voting on amendments to the Missouri Arts Council's budget next week. Although, last month the House Appropriations Committee for Economic Development recommended the Governor's recommended increase of $1.2 million for the Missouri Arts Council's FY2012 budget, the House Budget Chairman Ryan Silvey, (R-Kansas City), has proposed a House Committee Substitute to ELIMINATE the funding for the Arts and the four cultural partners.
