Fiona's List May 27 - June 7

Tue, May 26, 2009

Fiona's Number One Choice for this week is the premier concerts of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers in Kansas City and Lawrence on Saturday the 30th.

Fiona's List May 27 - June 7

Fiona's Number One Choice for this week is the premier concerts of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers in Kansas City and Lawrence on Saturday the 30th.  Professor Carrington is one of the current choral giants. He was a founding member of the King’s Singers, with whom he sang for 25 years. He was then Director of Choral Activities at Kansas University for nine years, moving on to the New England Conservatory of Music and has just retired from Yale University.  Saturday's concerts will be performed by a group of 24 singers, most of who have sung in one of Simon's groups.  They are now scattered across the United States and are paying their own expenses to sing with him again this week.  I'm personally expecting it to be a fabulous concert.  If you've agreed with my picks in the past, I hope you will want to attend this concert too.  (The names of the singers and works to be performed can be found on the KCMetropolis calendar located under KC Events.)

Fiona's other favorites for the next 12 days include Peter Serkin with the Kansas City Symphony on the 29th, 30th, and 31st,  Jan Van Otterloo's organ recital on the 31st,  the Westminster Concert Bell Choir on the 31st, the Balinese Music and Dance program on the 6th, the Bach Aria Soloists with Owen/Cox Dance Group on the 6th, the Klausner/Cass duo on the 7th, Sarah Titterington's solo baroque violin recital on the 7th, and the Stacey Uthe, Robert Grady, Lamar Sims, recital on the 7th.

Another outstanding week of concerts is coming up in Topeka June 5th through 13th.  For information on the concerts, the music, and the participants of the 23rd annual Sunflower Music Festival, check out www.sunflowermusicfestival.org.

For something different, try one of the other "fiona favorites" found just below the theatre listings on fiona's list.  There's something for you for every night of the week.  My recommendation this time is High Vibe performing at the Crazy Olives on Wednesday May 27th.  I have heard them many times and highly recommend them!

Fiona HIGHLY recommends another list of events for families, friends, educators, & neighbors of children 10 and under.  Miss Jackie's May list includes Jazz Storytelling, Marble Days, Read to a Dog, Truman's 125th birthday celebration, puppet shows, Asian Heritage Festival, 50 cent train rides, and more. To receive her monthly list, send an email to: missjackielists@gmail.com

Until next Wednesday morning,

Fiona
